ABOUT . ROVANIEMI . MELTAUS

We cannot own nature —
only borrow it

"We have never believed this place belongs to us. For decades, our family has simply been "borrowing" it—with gratitude, care, and deep respect for everything it quietly holds".

Our Story

Arctic Alma is difficult to describe in one word.

It is a carefully designed experience where the absence of noise becomes the most transformative presence.

A peaceful lakeside place in Finnish Lapland, where nature, silence and presence come together.

A private villa in the proximity of Rovaniemi city centre.

Our place in Meltaus has been part of our family for decades — a place to pause, breathe and feel connected to something deeper.

Surrounded by forest and water, life here in Lapland follows the rhythm of nature. Here, you are invited to rest, to simply be, and to experience the gentle power of Lapland's nature.

Through sauna, stillness, nature experiences and guided sessions such as drum relaxation and sound healing, we offer space for you to unwind and return to what truly matters.

Our Principles

Lakeside stillness in Meltaus, Rovaniemi

Forest and water surround you — life here follows the rhythm of nature, not the clock.

Sauna as ritual

The Finnish sauna is our oldest healer. We honour its tradition with every fire we light.

Sound and silence

From drum relaxation to the quiet of the forest, we use sound as a path to deep rest.

Family roots

This place has been ours for decades. That history lives in every breath, every stone, every sunset.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Arctic Alma founder Kristiina

KristiinaFounder & guide

Arctic Alma was not created as a business idea

It grew from something more personal — a deep connection to nature and a desire to create a space where others can experience that same sense of grounding, clarity and quiet. I work with holistic coaching, different creative and art therapeutic processes and retreat experiences rooted in nature.

Roots in the North

I have deep roots in Lapland and its ancient, untouched nature. From an early age, I spent time outdoors — especially through cross-country skiing trips with my grandfather, spending time and wondering about in forests hiking and fishing on the lake. Those moments spent in nature, moving through snow and silence, taught me something essential — resilience, patience and sisu — the quiet inner strength that carries us Finns forward.

Nature was never something separate. It was always a way of being. That connection has stayed with me throughout my life.

The story behind Arctic Alma

Arctic Alma is built around places that carry meaning. One of them is a former wildlife research environment — connected to family history, to observation and to a respectful relationship with nature. The presence of the forest and the quiet symbolism of the metto — the capercaillie, a bird of the northern woods — is part of that story.

These are not just locations. They are environments shaped by time, nature and lived experience.

Path and background

I have always loved spending time in nature — it is where I feel most at home. Over the years, this connection has also become part of my professional path.

—A trained wilderness and nature guide

How I work

My approach is simple, but intentional. I do not believe in pushing people toward fixed outcomes. I believe in creating the right conditions — and allowing each person's experience to unfold naturally.

This may happen through retreats, one-to-one coaching, creative and reflective practices or simply time spent in nature. Everything is designed to support your wellbeing, a slower rhythm and a deeper connection — both inward and outward.

An invitation

You are warmly invited to experience the quiet of Lapland. To step into clean air, open landscapes and the kind of stillness that is increasingly rare. Whether you come for a retreat or simply to stay — this is a place to slow down and enjoy the purity and peace of the northern nature.
